Six-month monitoring report now available for expedited liver policy
Published on: Thursday, January 20, 2022
A new data report contains key measures of the first six months of an Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policy establishing a pathway to expedite placement of livers. The OPTN Board of Directors approved the policy in December 2019, and it was implemented March 25, 2021. The six-month monitoring report was presented to the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) Committee on Dec. 15.
Given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on candidate listing and transplantation, the embedded tables and charts denote activity before and after the World Health Organization’s declaration of the pandemic on March 11, 2020, where relevant.
The OPTN OPO Committee will continue to monitor these policies as data are submitted, and subsequent monitoring reports will be posted in the liver and intestine resources section of the website. The next report will review outcomes from the first 12 months of the policy.
