The winter 2023 public comment cycle opened Jan. 19 and closes March 15. The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) is offering 12 items for review, including one white paper, one committee update, one concept paper, one request for feedback and 8 policy proposals.
Comments and replies will be published on the OPTN website to promote transparency and trust in the national transplant system.
We encourage patients, transplant candidates and recipients, living donors, donor families, and transplant professionals to learn more about the proposals and provide their valuable feedback to help shape U.S. organ transplant policy.
Items available for public comment are:
- Continuous Distribution of Kidneys and Pancreata Committee Update
- Modify Heart Policy for Intended Incompatible Blood Type (ABOi) Offers to Pediatric Candidates
- Optimizing Usage of Offer Filters
- Ethical Evaluation of Multiple Listing
- Identify Priority Shares in Kidney Multi-Organ Allocation
- Improve Deceased Donor Evaluation for Endemic Diseases
- Require Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) Confirmatory Typing for Deceased Donors
- Expand Required Simultaneous Liver-Kidney Allocation
- National Liver Review Board (NLRB) Guidance for Multivisceral Transplant Candidates
- Align OPTN KPD Blood Type Matching Policy and Establish Donor Re-Evaluation Requirements
- Update on Continuous Distribution of Livers and Intestines
- Establish Member System Access, Security Framework, and Incident Management and Reporting Requirements
Educational resources, including videos and presentations, are available to help the public learn more about the items.
All comments are reviewed and considered by the OPTN Board of Directors and the committees sponsoring the items available for public comment before developing final proposals for a vote by the OPTN Board of Directors. Learn more about the policy development process here.
