Committee to address geographic aspects of organ distribution

Following recent OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors consideration of the role of geography in OPTN policy, an Ad Hoc Committee on Geography has been formed. The group will meet over the next several months to establish guiding principles for the use of geography within OPTN policies. It also will review frameworks for incorporating those principles into allocation policies. It will report its recommendations to the OPTN/UNOS Board.
Committee members include OPTN/UNOS Board members and leadership from organ-specific committees, as well as representatives from donation- and transplantation-related societies.
Kevin O’Connor, M.S., PA, will chair the committee. He is president and chief executive officer of LifeCenter Northwest.
