Board releases University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from probation

St. Louis - At its meeting November 12 and 13, the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors released the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from the status of probation. The Board had placed the institution on probation in November 2011 based on a need for process improvement in communicating key clinical information among transplant staff members. The hospital was allowed to continue transplant activity while under probationary status.
"The transplant program has made great strides to improve in the key areas," said OPTN/UNOS President John Roberts, M.D. "We will continue routine monitoring of its activity with an emphasis on patient safety, as we do with all programs."
